  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I've been using BitPim for several years and while it is by no means pretty it does what it says it will. It has allowed me to back up my Sanyo MM-8300 (and an MM-8200 before it) cell phone with no hassles. It looks like it was laid out by a PC or Unix person but it works well. Doesn't have the most intuitive user interface either but it gets the job done. Without it you're basically stuck on a Mac as Sprint centers will tell you that you can't (or *they* can't) back up the phone to a computer. pshaw! No more re-typing contact numbers again. Also have never had issues with BitPim crashing.

It crashes back to the OS frequently. Many of the features don't work. It even crashes when you try to complete the program's trouble report. Stay away.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I'm torn on things like this, where I am really appreciative that an app even exists and I'm also disgusted by how it works. The user interface is terrible and when you get errors the feedback is not friendly. Getting it to talk to the phone is a pain. When it DOES work it works well, but I've only gotten there by memorizing the steps that make it happy. I admit a large part of the fault is the manufacturers -- communication with cellphones should be standardized and developers shouldn't have to hack the phones one model at a time, as the Bitpim crew has, to reverse engineer how they work. Moreover, Verizon deliberately cripples bluetooth on some phones, adding to the user headaches. So, I'm sympathetic but still hate using Bitpim; I recommend it b/c it's the best we can do. Verizon is not helpful, either. I've had the best luck with BitPim vx8700, moderate success with vx8300, and problems with vx5300 -- it's just not consistent. I would better I think with USB cables over Bluetooth buit don't want to buy all those cables and hate cables anyway. So when will iSync be extended to LG? Probably never.

Whereas some iterations ago I had problems, the test versions for 1.0.0 have all functioned well, as does the release version. I applaud the development team and am grateful for all the sweat and tears behind the program. Al Maloney

It's a little quarky sometimes (probably the python language) but it's free and the developers are always working on it, that's something that is really cool. I use to pay for picture messaging just to save my pictures I took with the camera and this app saved me over 60 dollars. Nice work guys keep up the good work.

Right now, it's all we have out there but vers. 0.8 is a step back from version 0.7. Running 10.3.9, BitPim has trouble seeing my phone. I no longer connect via a USB hub but directly to my Mac's built-in USB port and I also have to change the COM port settings every time I start up. It is also slow as the dickens to up/download data. And I can't drag and drop photos downloaded to BitPim from my phone. Finally, I've had BitPim unexepectedly quit, or I had to do a force quit to get it to finally quit. The PC version, believe it or not, is faster, more stable and works better with my phone. I trust that the developer will make improved versions in the future.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This program has worked out great with my LG VX7000 and I have used it with my wife's VX4400 and my old VX10. It has always worked fairly well and if problems come up there is a mailing list that the main developer is on and helps users with issues. The only thing I would like to see is direct sync'ing with the Address Book. As of now, you have to import the address book and then sync it. Initial setup can be tricky but usually isn't. It is also updated frequently so any problems that may arise are usually worked out quickly.
