• NOT ALLOWED TO RESTORE ERASED HARD DRIVE USING iDrive

  Easy to backup files on regular schedule. User-friendly interface.

  After complete erasure of my iMac hard drive (recommended by Apple Support to solve a problem), a Mac restore screen appeared. The screen allowed me to restore my files, etc., using another Mac or Time Machine. There was no choice "other" to use iDrive backup. I was forced to use Time Machine. When I contacted iDrive support, I was told to send them a screenshot of the screen limiting my choices. RIDICULOUS! That screen appeared only when I had no desktop, no applications, no screenshot capability!!

  Summary

  idrive cannot be used to restore IMac after complete erasure of hard drive.

  Spent 3 days trying to get it to work on my iMac. Contacted both of their support function; phone call--they only deal with simple things; on-line chat, they look at a log and tell you everything is ok, even when nothing has backed up, they then say try it again it will work--DO NOT BELIEVE that. Called to get a refund and was told I had 15 days, but since I had a $1 account and had merely upgraded to a full account I had long since passed my 15 days. The $1 was to get the IOS version. All in all this was a bad experience that cost me a great deal of time for no benefit beyond the learning experience to not deal with them.

  Summary

  All looks good when you first examine the iDrive system, but it really does not perform. A bad deal with poor technical support. Save yourself a great deal of time and find an alternative.

  This company abandoned it's early users. They introduced "new and improved" software that was incompatible with early backups. In my case I had over 200GB of data that was not upgradeable to their new system. They didn't offer to upgrade their customers or offer to allow them to upload via hard drive to speed the change over. On my relatively slow DSL hook up it took a couple of months to upload the data and it would be a waste to have to repeat that tedious process. The original software is glitchy and works poorly often just stopping and misrepresenting the amount of space that I had paid for. I cannot believe reputable company would provide such miserable service. Stay away from idrive they are not reliable.

  Random freeze ups I used to have no longer occur

  iDrive CRASHES can't leave it on without the app crashing Has backed up only 650 files out of 42,000 requested OSX Maverick Apps all seem to crash now Machine is so slow

  not 100% sure its iDrives fault-- BUT IT SURE SEEMS LIKE IT I am asking for my money back

  but then you can't restore! I have 100+GB of photo files to restore and their function mixes up filenames and files! it is absolutely impossible for me to know whether I have a good restore unless I literally look at the thumbnails of thousands of files!

  Summary

  Save your money and do business elsewhere. Their support people are useless, and the "supervisors" never get back to you.

  I canceled my subscription after a year but only after seeing the new charge on my credit card bill. No reminders, just a bill. They refused to refund my remaining 51 weeks payment. It's your decision to use them of course but be careful, they'll rob you.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />They recommend you pick your own private encryption key, then note as the very last line in their product description that this is NOT available on the Mac. I wouldn't recommend it until private encryption key support is available. Otherwise, they store the system encryption key on their servers and unauthorized access by iDrive personnel or hackers is possible.
